"Let Them Eat Foie Gras"

In this morning's NYT, there is an article about a new trend in Hollywood that allows companies to pamper and woo celebrities without any of the tax penalties that are now being charged for gift bags. Instead, they take the star and his friends out for dinner and drinks. In some cases, the celeb is given a three-day spa treatment.

“I think goodie bags are a bit last year, aren’t they?” asked Nick Jones, the propietor and marketing talent behind Soho House, a chain of hotels and private clubs in London and New York. He hopes to open a permanent space in Los Angeles in the next couple of years. “It’s not like giving someone a motor car or a diamond ring,” he added. “It’s a more subtle connection. We’re entertaining.”

So, for those taking notes:

Goodie bags - "So Last Year"

Referring to automobiles as "motor cars" - Totally Acceptable
